Located in the southwestern United States, Arizona is a state dominated by transportation, health care, and government industries. Its largest cities and economic hubs are Phoenix and Tucson.

Much of the land in Arizona is government-owned, providing opportunities for those interested in the outdoors. Because of the abundance of preserved land and warm weather, tourism is also a big industry in Arizona.

The state’s flagship institutions, the University of Arizona and Arizona State University, are also among their respective cities’ top employers.

As of 2012 the largest employers in Arizona are the government (including federal, state, and local), Wal-Mart, Banner Health, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, McDonalds, Raytheon, and JP Morgan.
