Leadership development is anything that makes the leadership in an organization better. For new graduates, leadership development often refers to a program designed to bring new leaders into an organization and give them more skills needed to be effective leaders.

Like rotation programs, large businesses most often feature leadership development programs, but you can occasionally find a small business with an opening or two for a leadership development-type position. These programs last anywhere from six months to two years, and the type of work you do in such a program varies widely depending on department.

You’ll need a bachelor’s degree in a related field to enter most leadership development programs. While leadership development programs are designed for new graduates, experience gained through internships and part-time jobs will strengthen your application.
