Outreach is the act of providing services to groups who may not otherwise have access to them, as well as raising awareness of these services. Non-profit organizations most often perform outreach, providing services that other organizations do not provide. The services provided vary widely and can include shelter, rehabilitation, mentoring, or counseling.

Since non-profits perform most outreach, one of the best ways to get a job in outreach is to get involved. Volunteer or intern at an organization related to the cause you’re interested in (even better, the place you want to work). A couple of job titles to look for include Outreach Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator.

You’ll need a bachelor’s degree for most staff positions involving outreach, along with strong communication skills, passion for your cause of choice, and ability to get along with all types of people.
