There are two sides to retail, the customer-facing sales side and the corporate side. If you’ve been in a store you’ve interacted with the former. Maybe you’ve even worked retail before. That’s one job path to take if it interests you; it can lead to a management career and possibly a job working in retail strategy and marketing.
You can also work in the corporate side of retail. This path has all the standard departments a large company has: marketing, advertising, design, technology, human resources, and finance. You might also consider working for an online retailer, particularly if you have a software development or customer service bent.
While working directly with customers usually doesn’t require a degree, working behind the scenes at a company usually does. You’ll need a degree in a relevant field and other skills relevant to the department you want to enter.
