I often tell people that I don’t like sandwiches. The truth is that I don’t like bad sandwiches, so most sandwich chains are out for me. The only one that I’ll somewhat regularly eat at is Potbelly Sandwich Shop. It’s hard to beat one of their Meatball sandwiches with an Oreo milkshake. I’d never heard of Potbelly until I moved to Chicago, IL, which is both where they’re headquartered and where they got their start. The first store opened in 1977, but it wasn’t until 1996 when Bryant Keil bought the store that they started expanding the business.
The second Potbelly Sandwich Shop opened in 1997. Now there are more than 260 of them, so you can enjoy Potbelly sandwiches in Arizona, Washington DC, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, and Ohio. All of the locations share a three part mission:
Judging from my experiences, they’re doing well on all three fronts. Potbelly truly blows many of its largest competitors out of the water in terms of quality and dining experience (the shops are fun and actually a nice place to enjoy a sandwich). If you’d like to help Potbelly Sandwich Shop continue their growth, take a look at their Careers page. There are some fantastic opportunities for new and recent grads including:
There are also obviously a ton of in-shop opportunities (from Associate to Manager to Musician to Delivery Biker), and you can find all of those on Potbelly’s Careers website. One nice thing is that they seem to list all of their jobs on the site, so even if they’re not currently hiring for a position, you can see that it exists.
