Careers in E-commerce

Looking for an entry level job or internship in e-commerce? This is an overview of how to approach the search and a list of companies that might have relevant entry level and internship opportunities.

E-commerce deals with buying and selling products over the Internet. But e-commerce isn’t limited to working on the sites that buy and sell products (though there are a lot of them out there). You can also work with a third party that helps an online seller with an aspect of its business, such as payment processing or setting up an online storefront.

E-commerce companies have many of the traditional departments that most companies have. A few possibilities for you as a recent grad include:

Web Developer
Graphic Designer
User Experience/Interaction Designer
Customer Support Representative
Merchandise Assistant
Warehouse Associate
Business Development Associate
Copywriter

Most of these jobs require a bachelor’s degree, and a few of them (web and graphic design positions) may require a portfolio showing examples of past work.
