Just about every company with a technological component uses data to gain information about users, target products and services, gather ideas to enhance user experiences, create and improve user predictions, and more. Most positions working with large amounts of data involve writing programs to gain information, using statistical methods to come to conclusions, and using analytics software to analyze data.
A bachelor’s degree is required for almost all positions involving big data. Since you’ll be applying them a lot on the job, take lots of courses in math, computer science, and statistics. Knowledge of at least one programming language as well as a statistical software package such as R or SPSS are also useful.
