You can work to make appliances such as dishwashers and refrigerators more energy efficient, thus using less energy while getting the same job done and saving the end user money on their electric bill. Or you can research and build renewable energy sources, such as wind power, solar energy, hydropower, and biofuel. You can also work in the oil industry and optimize drilling. A couple more options are to work with an energy consulting firm or an energy-focused nonprofit. And don’t forget the standard departments that most organizations, even energy-centered ones have: IT, marketing, accounting, etc.
You’ll need a bachelor’s degree for most of these positions, along with skills required for the specific position, especially for engineering positions.
