Iowa is home to a diverse economy in the midwestern United States. Its largest city and capital is Des Moines.

Agriculture directly makes up a small part of the state’s diverse economy, but it indirectly makes up much more. Iowa is a strong producer of hogs, corn, soybeans, cattle, eggs, and dairy products. The state is a leading producer of ethanol. Iowa’s agricultural industry has led to a food processing industry. with many food companies setting up a presence in Iowa. The state also manufactures machinery and electric equipment.

Other industries in Iowa include the financial sector, insurance, biotechnology, and renewable energy. A few companies headquartered in Iowa include Maytag, Winnebago, Rockwell Collins, and Wells Blue Bunny.
