I don’t know when people started to think that other people care what they think of Super Bowl commercials, but it seems that everyone with a Twitter account is now an advertising expert. Considering the fact that I have a Twitter account, I guess I should give you all my opinion on some of last night’s ads (at least I’m kinda sorta in the advertising/media industry). First, I really liked the Groupon spots—I thought they were hilarious and did a great job of poking fun at consumerism. Still, they didn’t explain the joke as well as they could have, and it backfired (but all that press is great for brand recognition). However, my favorite ad was Chrysler’s “Imported from Detroit.” Maybe it’s just because my family ties give me a soft spot for the Motor City, but I think that Portland, OR based Wieden + Kennedy knocked it out of Comerica Park with this one. It was two minutes long (which costs $8+ million) and featured Eminem. Even better, it told a story and made me want to buy an American car—maybe even a Chrysler.

When I started this business, I focused almost entirely on the web for networking – a LinkedIn connection or an e-mail address was all that I needed. However, my mom (who is also my graphic designer) had other ideas. Right after she designed my logo, she sent away to VistaPrint to get me business cards. We’re big on innovation here. We don’t like talking about companies that are doing things the way that they’ve always done. They’re not only boring, but they’re also destined for failure. Look at the auto industry. You can blame the downfall of the Big 3 on a lot of things, but a lack of innovation has to be a big part of your argument. We’re trying to bring innovation to the way that you find jobs, and there are hundreds of startups out there that are defined by innovation. It’s all around us. frog design is a global innovation firm. It’s been almost a year since we officially launched, and in that time we’ve featured quite a few entry level jobs in public relations. Many have been in-house jobs with major brands, while others have been on the consulting/agency side.
