Venture capital can refer to financial funding provided to early-stage startups or to the business behind this funding. A venture capital firm can fund startups in web technology, healthcare, fashion, and more.

As a recent grad, you’d most likely be working as an analyst or associate, though specific job titles may vary by venture capital firm. Some things in your typical day may include:

  • Meeting with entrepreneurs
  • Doing research on potential investments
  • Working with investments–helping out with hiring, event planning, and giving advice
  • Writing quarterly reports

In order to thrive in venture capital, you need interpersonal skills, an intimate understanding of the industry the venture capital firm covers, and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment. A bachelor’s degree isn’t always required but will certainly help.
