We’ve been really busy here at One Day, One Job, which has unfortunately meant that we haven’t been able to publish as many in-depth articles as we’d like to. We have had time to put together a list of 50 Twitter People for Job Seekers to Follow and a report on the Entry Level Hiring Outlook for 2009, but other that we’ve been busy on some other exciting projects. Here are some updates from the past few months.
If you’re an RSS or e-mail subscriber, you may not have noticed, but we’ve launched a complete redesign of One Day, One Job. We think that you’ll find it easier to navigate the site to find detailed info on great entry level employers. We also think that the site just looks better now. If you have any feedback on the design, please let me know at willy@onedayonejob.com or @willyf on Twitter.
This is the big project that I’ve been working on for the past 5 months with Jason Seiden (you need to check out his blog – it’s some of the best career advice out there). Found Your Career is 21-day online job search prep course that we’ve developed to help you become a better job seeker and a more qualified hire.
The concept behind the course is simple: The job search is the perfect place to prove to employers what kind of skills you have. Found Your Career is all about helping you use the job search as a case study in which you can develop skills like Creative Thinking, Researching, Communication, and Selling.
If you’re having trouble with the job search, Found Your Career will help.
We want to help as many new grads as we can find great jobs despite this rough economy, but we need your help. Here are some ways that you can help us spread the word and improve the job prospects of recent grads across the country:
There are plenty of other ways to spread the word about us, but we hope you’ll do something to help out.
You may have noticed that we have a couple new writers around here. Heather Huhman, a PR professional, has been doing posts on Mondays about PR jobs, and George Tarakhovski, a recent Duke grad, has occasionally been writing on any companies or organizations that catch his interest. You can find out more about both of them on our About page.
Last but not least, if you remember back to our HP Magic Giveaway (which was kind of like Job Angels but with an awesome prize), then you’ll remember that Tony Eversole was the winner. He sent me the following e-mail a few months back, and I just got around to sharing it with you.
Thanks again for the awesome prize package. It really did make for a great Christmas. To follow up, I had Robin and a few friends over for an early Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve. I kept the Touch Smart PC for myself and I wrapped one of the HP laptops up as I wanted to have a little fun with Robin. After dinner and our usual gift exchange, I sat Robin down and read her the winning entry and the details of the contest but didn’t tell her about the prizes. I sat the wrapped present on a table and told her she could take the ‘mystery box’ or she could have… I then showed her the prizes starting with the software and working my way up. She was so nervous as the prizes kept getting better and better. I put her at ease by telling her she could open the mystery box and then swap it for something else if she chose. Of course she kept the laptop and I must say she was as overwhelmed as I was. None of my friends was in on the secret so they were all as surprised (and a little jealous) as she was. The remaining prize items were divided between family and friends. I also asked Robin to bring a large sheet of poster board and some pens because we were going to make a “Christmas card”. She was puzzled the whole night about what we were making until after the gig was up and then she understood. Please find attached our Thank You card. You will also be happy to know that Robin landed a job at a local foster care placement agency the day before Christmas which made the whole experience that much sweeter. She started her new job last week and really loves it. She commented on how outdated their computer systems were (sounds like I need to pay them a visit) and how excited she was to have a nice laptop for work! Thanks again for everything from both of us.
