Careers in Drama

Looking for an entry level job or internship in drama? This is an overview of how to approach the search and a list of companies that might have relevant entry level and internship opportunities.

If you love the theatre and the stage, a career in drama may be for you. A career in drama involves a lot more than acting, and a few of those possibilities include:

Directing: Directing the productions that come to life on stage
Stage management: Organizing a theatrical production
Costumes and makeup: Creating the costumes and makeup that the actors wear on stage
Arts administration: Coordinating an aspect of an arts organization, often a non-profit
Drama education: Teaching drama at a school or community center
Voice acting: Providing voices that appear in cartoons and video games

You may also be interested in a career behind the scenes of entertainment, television, or film. The education needed to get started in one of these positions varies. While you need a bachelor’s degree for most administrative and educational positions, you can get started without a degree for some of the hands-on positions. However, the education will provide you with more background and training.
