Yesterday I touted the fact that WWF directs 85% of their expenses towards programming. If you’re like me, you probably wondered where the rest goes. 11% of it goes to Fundraising/Development. That’s a pretty big chunk, but it’s by no means uncommon in the non-profit world. Organizations need money to keep running, and it takes money to raise money (this makes getting a non-profit started a huge task). Many non-profits end up spending their money by hiring Sanky Communications, which is a New York, NY based company that “has launched or expanded successful marketing programs for more than 100 nonprofit organizations.” They do this through two businesses: SankyDirect and SankyNet. The former “offers a wide range of direct mail fundraising services” while the latter is “an online marketing agency made up of dedicated Web specialists, developers, and strategists with decades of combined experience advancing nonprofit work.”
Profiting from a non-profit sounds kind of wrong, right? Well if you landed a job at a non-profit, that’s exactly what you’d be doing. What Sanky Communications does is help non-profits more effectively spend money to raise money. Not only does it help these organizations get their hands on more money to put towards programming, but it also helps them stop worrying about marketing and fundraising so that they can devote more time to programming. While Sanky Direct only has a few pages on the Sanky Communications website, SankyNet actually has its own site. I definitely recommend poking around to learn more. You’ll also want to take a look at Sanky Communications’ portfolio and client list. They work with a lot of big names, and if you’d like to join them in doing so, check out Sanky Communications’ Jobs page. Right now they’re looking for an Administrative Assistant, an Internet Project Coordinator, and a Freelance Copy Writer. SankyNet also has its own Careers page that seems to have some overlap. They have postings for a Project Assistant, a Web Developer, and a Freelance Writer.
