What do hipsters love? Brooklyn and things with suggested prices/contributions (you can feel like a full paying customer without being a full paying customer). They also like artsy stuff. I have to imagine that the Brooklyn Museum is a hipster’s paradise, but then again it’s probably paradise for a lot of people considering that it’s “one of the oldest and largest art museums in the country.” They have more than half a million square feet of space and an amazing group of collections “that range from the ancient to the contemporary and encompass virtually all the world’s principal cultures.”
What I think is really cool about the Brooklyn Museum is that they are “committed to making [their] collections accessible to the widest possible audience.” There can be a lot of exclusivity in the art world, so it’s nice that such a large institution is making so much art available for anyone to view. You can even browse their collections online. That’s what you should do if you can’t visit, since it’s the only real way to get a feel for what the museum is about. If you like what you see, check out Brooklyn Museum’s Careers page. Right now they’re looking for an Admission Sales Assistant, a Major Gifts Officer, a Meet the Museum Instructor, an Associate Manager of Interpretive Materials — Exhibitions, and a Associate Curator of Islamic Art—Exhibitions. There’s also a Digital Community Liaison position posted on Idealist.
