I love candy, which is why I’ve already profiled companies like Just Born Quality Confections, Jelly Belly, Russell Stover, and the PMCA at Easter time and Mars, The Hershey Company, NECCO, Charles Chocolates, and Vosges at other times of the year. This year my Mom asked me what kind of candy I wanted, and I told her that she should take it easy since I’m trying to drop a few pounds before my wedding. Maybe I should have asked her to just get candy from UNREAL Brands. They’re a Boston, MA based upstart that is aiming to get candy “unjunked.” What does that mean? They want to take all of the crap out of candy (corn syrup, partially hydrogenated oil, artificial ingredients, GMOs, and preservatives), but still make it taste good.
So far UNREAL Brands offers candies that are comparable to M&M’s, Peanut M&M’s, Snicker’s, Milky Way, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Hopefully they’ll be adding more soon. You can see how each offering stacks up nutritionally here. What’s really incredible is that they’re aiming for the same pricing and distribution as the brands I just mentioned. That means that you can walk into a CVS or Walgreen’s and buy a healthier (I’m not sure I’d call it healthy) option that tastes better according to UNREAL’s taste tests without paying the health food premium. What might be more impressive is the star power behind UNREAL. They have Tom Brady, Giselle Bundchen, Matt Damon, John Legend, Bill Gates, Jack Dorsey, and even some famous doctor. Here’s an intro video to the brand (click to watch):
I actually like the video on their home page better, but I couldn’t find an embed link for it (watch it until the end, it’s awesome). There is also a series of videos for the Easter Bunny Apology Tour on Youtube, so those are worth watching too. Now here’s the point where I disappoint you a little bit. UNREAL Brands doesn’t have a jobs page, though I did see one more senior position posted on LinkedIn (and I also saw that they’ve had interns in the past in Marketing and Social Media). It’s up to you to reach out to them and see what’s possible. That’s the approach that you have to take when you find great companies that don’t have a job posted that’s perfect for you.
