Over the past 7 years, I’ve heard from a lot of frustrated college grads who can’t find jobs. Some of the most frustrated have been international students. They came to the U.S. to get an education, and they’d love to stay here and put that education to use. Unfortunately, the current laws make that extremely difficult. Right now we have a system that is both unfair and economically damaging. We can do better, and FWD.us is a San Francisco, CA based non-profit lobbying organization that wants to make that happen as soon as possible. It was “started by key leaders in the tech community to promote policies to keep the United States and its citizens competitive in a global economy—including comprehensive immigration reform and education reform.”
If you’re looking for a job, it can be easy think that more open immigration policies would hurt you. It’s easier to see a new immigrant as “taking your spot,” than it is to see him or her as a person who will create even more economic opportunity. Reading some of these stories will help you better understand why immigration is so important to our country’s continued success. If you want a basic overview of FWD.us’ platform, you can find that here. There’s a lot more information on their site, and I encourage you to check it out. If it resonates with you, visit the FWD.us Careers page. Right now they’re looking for a Social Media Coordinator, a Social Media Fellow, Regional Organizers (San Francisco, Miami, Chicago, Raleigh, and Boulder), Research Fellows (San Francisco/Silicon Valley, Miami, Austin, New York City, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, Raleigh, or Boulder), a Digital Advocacy Fellow, Organizing Fellows (San Francisco/Silicon Valley, Miami, Austin, New York City, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, Raleigh, or Boulder), and a Summer Apprentice.
