Happy 2014! While New Year’s resolutions are probably one of the worst ways to make a positive change in your life, people continue to set themselves up for failure by assuming that a change of calendar will give them all of the motivation that they need to accomplish a goal. The first few weeks are pretty easy, but how do you keep it up when the new year isn’t all that new anymore? You need other sources of motivation. If your resolutions are fitness based Fitocracy might be the answer. They’re a New York, NY based company that aims “to make fitness a more fun, more addictive experience.” They do this with the power of social networks and gamification.
Instead of listening to me tell you about Fitocracy, why don’t you go try it? It’s free. We can all gain from focusing more on our fitness, so Fitocracy really is a site/app for everyone. You can get started here, and if any questions pop up, just check out the FAQ. There are already more than 1 million users, so you won’t be alone. Fitocracy’s business model isn’t completely clear yet, but one of their first attempts is through Group Fitness communities. Basically, you can pay to get access to sub-communities led by professionals. It’s a cool idea. As for your other New Year’s Resolution–the employment one–take a look at Fitocracy’s Careers page. Their only posting right now is for a Software Developer, but they say that they want to hear from anyone who can make them “pay attention by building cool, useful stuff that would clearly push Fitocracy forward.”
