Although the fro-yo craze died more than a decade ago, there seems to be a resurgence on many college campuses. We think it might be related to the law of physics/nutritional science that says: if a college student piles 6 toppings on a serving of non-fat, low-calorie soft serve frozen yogurt, the calories don’t count. Unfortunately, these students often overlook the corresponding rule that the calories from all the booze you drink in college are doubled.
Oddly enough, when college students catch on to something, there’s usually one brand that ends up a big winner – Starbucks, Apple, or Facebook for example. Well, right now the fro-yo market is wide open for the taking. Pinkberry is trying to be the brand. They want to give you what you’re already getting from TCBY, Tasti D·Lite, or your campus dining hall, but in a much cooler package. Even better, Pinkberry wants to take the cookie dough, peanut butter cups, and oreos off of your soft-serve and replace them with fresh berries, granola, and oreos (there are some things you just can’t give up). To add to their “cool factor,” they only offer two flavors (pinkberry and green tea), allegedly have a secret menu, and serve stars such as Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan, and Mike Tyson (no, Pinkberry isn’t a halfway house).
So why are we talking about frozen yogurt when you’re here to find a job? Because a lot of people (like Fortune and Fast Company) think that Pinkberry is the next big thing. Well who’s better to help a company become the next big thing than recent college graduates?
The bad news is that Pinkberry doesn’t have much of a jobs page – Pinkberry only lists jobs@pinkberry.com with the tagline “Be a part of Pinkberry.” In fact, the only information we can find about jobs at Pinkberry are retail positions posted on job boards. So why are we posting about them? Because sometimes finding a great job isn’t as easy as clicking through a few links and sending in a resume. Sometimes you need to dig beyond what you can find on the Internet. If you love frozen yogurt and want to be a part of a company that might change the way we think about soft-serve like Starbucks changed the way we think about coffee, then go research Pinkberry and find out what they’re all about. After you have a good feel for the company, write them an e-mail that blows their mind. If they have entry-level positions, you’ll be a shoe-in. If they don’t, maybe they’ll make one for you or, at the least, let you know when something opens up.
Note: On April 22nd we revisited entry-level jobs at Pinkberry.
