I went to Cornell, you ever heard of it? Maybe you have, but I bet you didn’t know that the university’s motto is ranked #1 across all American colleges and universities. The motto is “I would found an institution where any person can find instruction in any study.” I guess that explains why I was able to take a course in Meat Science. Anyway, the motto is great, but it’s not really true. A Cornell education isn’t really accessible to anyone, but a Khan Academy education is one. It’s a non-profit organization based in Mountain View, CA “with the mission of providing a world-class education to anyone, anywhere.” They do this by providing online video lessons in a wide range of topics including Algebra, Banking and Money, Brain Teasers, Chemistry, Finance, Statistics, Venture Capital and Capital Market, and lots more.

You Khan Do It

Khan Academy was founded by Salman Khan, who “started the Khan Academy as a way to tutor his cousins remotely–while he was a hedge fund analyst in Boston, and they were students in New Orleans.” It’s grown to be a lot more than that. Because Khan Academy is so focused on video, their About page relies mostly on video. You should put aside a bunch of time to watch at least a few of these videos, because they’re long and packed with important information about what Khan Academy is all about. Once you’ve done that, then you can decide whether you’d be interested in a job with them. They don’t have a Jobs page, but I did come across a posting on Hacker News that says they’re looking for Software/Web Developers. You can also check out Khan Academy’s Get Involved page if you’re not a software type—maybe you can do some volunteering that will eventually lead to a job.
