There are some really exciting opportunities for new and recent grads in the financial advice industry. Learn how to land one of these jobs at the NextGen Virtual Career Fair.
Yesterday we talked about how subscription offerings are changing the way that traditional e-commerce companies do business. There’s a ton of money to be made in giving people the ability to get routine toilet paper deliveries, but it’s not all that exciting. Receiving mail should be fun. That’s the premise behind Quarterly, a Los Angeles, CA based company that allows “anyone to subscribe to influential contributors and receive physical items in the mail from them.” It’s a little odd, but I like it (and so does one of our readers who landed a job there and told me about it). Would you rather read someone’s tweets? Or get gifts from them every few months? Gifts, obviously. Ok, tweets are free, and Quarterly isn’t, but $25 per quarter is a small price to pay for a fun surprise.
Quarterly is taking an approach that was already validated by Birchbox, but adding personalities to the equation. Some of the Quarterly contributors whose names I recognize include Jason Kottke, Cool Hunting, Scott Belsky, and Alex Ohanian. Those aren’t huge names, but they’re people who are interesting and have a following. I’d love to see famous chefs, athletes, and fishing guides on there–those are the kind of people I’d want to subscribe to. Though I’m not 100% sold yet, I think Quarterly is on to something really cool. If you agree, check out their Jobs page. There are some great openings including Operations Assistant, Assistant Buyer, and Contributor Talent Manager. The Operations Assistant position is the only one that is truly entry level, but the other two are well worth a look.
