Americans for the Arts Logo

Americans for the Arts is a non-profit organization that represents and serves local communities in its efforts to create opportunities for every American to participate in and appreciate all forms of the arts. Whether you’re interested in painting, dance, theatre, or sculpture - Americans for the Arts wants to enhance your ability to access artistic creativity, whether it be your own or someone else’s.

Americans for the Arts works with local, state, and national arts organizations; government agencies; business leaders; individual philanthropists; educators; and funders to further their mission. This grassroots approach allows them to focus resources that are only available to a large, national organization on local projects with very specific needs. From organizing Arts Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C. to running career development programs for arts professionals, Americans for the Arts is constantly using its amazing reach to not only create programs that support the arts, but also to educate professionals who can continue the organization’s mission at the local level. Since we’re not the most artistic or even art-loving bunch, that’s all the detail about Americans for the Arts we’re going to go into today. We’re leaving most of the research on this one to those who are truly moved by the arts (and if that’s you, feel free to add your thoughts or research in the comments section, we’d love to hear from our readers).

Americans for the Arts only has one current opening that might be an appropriate fit for a recent college grad; however, they do accept applications for future openings. The opening is as a Program Coordinator for the National Arts Marketing Project. Americans for the Arts’ job listing actually does a great job of describing the position, the qualifications needed, and what you can expect to be doing - so if you love the arts, have a background in Marketing and Sales, and want to work in a non-profit that is doing great things, give it a look. The Program Coordinator position comes with significant responsibilities, but there is no mention of previous experience being necessary; moreover, the list of required skills is quite realistic for many entry-level candidates. From what we can tell, they’re only hiring one person for this position, but the job can be located in either New York City or Tarpon Springs, FL. If you want this job, take a look at the posting and act fast! It says that all applications are due by December 23rd - yes, that’s tomorrow. They also won’t consider candidates who don’t include salary requirements (why don’t they just post their salary range instead?).

Note: On April 26th we revisited entry-level jobs at Americans for the Arts.
