There are two ways that I like to judge PR and marketing firms. I like to look at the work that they do for their clients, and I like to look at the work they do for themselves. I’m not sure if one is more important than the other, but I think it’s kind of ridiculous if a firm doesn’t do a good job communicating their brand. VSCPR is “an award-winning strategic public relations and digital marketing boutique founded in 2002” that does a fantastic job with their messaging. They’re based in San Francisco, CA with offices in New York, Mumbai, and London. The VSC in their name stands for visibility, strategy, and creativity, and the company calls its people “the pyromaniacs of PR.” Their website certainly exudes all of those things.
While I think VSCPR did an amazing job with the messaging on their website (especially considering that it’s only about 4 total pages), I also think they’re missing something big. There’s no client list, case studies, or anything like that. All they have is a revolving list of news stories that their clients are in. That’s great since it’s actually showing that VSCPR has been successful in achieving placements for their clients, but it doesn’t explicitly say who the clients are. They do say that they “work with the most influential VCs, entrepreneurs (repeat clients), incubators and angel investors across six key categories: Mobile / Social / Gaming / Advertising / Retail / Enterprise.” But if you want to learn more about VSCPR, you’re in luck. First check out this video:
Then go to their About page to meet their team. If you’re feeling like a potential pyro after reading all about them, then go to VSCPR’s Jobs page, which is also excellent. They don’t just do a great job talking about their jobs, but they seem to offer a really great experience for employees. They offer all kinds of benefits, and they make it clear that they want work to be rewarding and exciting. They also post jobs with titles like “Is your job taking you to Puerto Vallarta this year?” and “Wanted: Smart people for a wild and crazy PR adventure.” The latter is an entry level Account Coordinator position with opportunities in both New York and San Francisco. These job postings are what all job postings should look like, so check them out even if a job in PR isn’t for you.
