It seems that geek culture has finally become mainstream. Maybe it’s the fact that engineers are in high demand at companies like Facebook, Apple, and Google. Or maybe it’s the upsurge in popularity of sites like Reddit. Or maybe it’s shows like The Big Bang Theory. I don’t really know, but for the first time in my lifetime, it’s good to be a geek. So good, in fact, that many of the “popular” kids are now claiming geek status. Whether you’re a true geek or a poser geek, you need geek gear, and ThinkGeek is the place to go for that. They’re a Fairfax, VA based company that started with the “simple idea to create and sell stuff that would appeal to the thousands of people out there who were on the front line and in the trenches as the Internet was forged.”
I swear that first saw ThinkGeek because someone sent me a link to a PowerSquid, but they don’t seem to stock them anymore (or my memory may be faulty). Either way ThinkGeek offers a variety of merchandise that ranges from extremely useful to extremely useless. Some stuff solves problems that geeks typically have, and some is more about expressing your geekiness. Take a look–there’s something for nearly everyone. If you want to get to know the geeks behind ThinkGeek, take a look at the company’s webcams. You can watch people work! If you’d prefer to be watched while you work, take a look at ThinkGeek’s Jobs page. Right now the best fit for a new or recent grad is Product Photographer, but you may also want to take a look at the Front-End UI/UX Designer and Site Marketing Manager positions (they require some experience though). They also offer a few paid internships if none of these positions are a fit.
