When my fiancée and I were invited to a wedding in Jackson Hole, I insisted that we go and stay for at least a week. I had been once before when I was about 12, and I’ve been dying to get back. I’m here, and I love it. There’s nothing like waking up and looking out the window to see huge mountains. Since I’m in Jackson, WY, I decided to see if there are any interesting non-profits here with job opportunities. My search immediately led me to the Teton Science Schools, which is an organization that has “been educating, training, and inspiring students about the natural world” since 1967. They serve people of all ages, and their focus is quite obviously on using the amazing natural surroundings to teach science.
The Teton Science Schools consists of six major programs: Educational Programs (learning adventures for schools, youth, adults and families), a Graduate Program (develops leaders in place-based teaching, field ecology and experiential education), a Teacher Learning Center (teacher training for the 21st century), Journeys School (a pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade independent school), a Conservation Research Center (promotes responsible conservation and land stewardship), and Wildlife Expeditions (eco-friendly wildlife viewing for everyone). Teton Science Schools covers a ton of ground, which means that they have something for everyone. While I don’t plan to take advantage of their programs while I’m here, I do plan to explore my surroundings. That means I’m going to go enjoy the wilderness, but you should check out Teton Science Schools’ Careers page. They have a few positions worth checking out including Educational Programs – Field Education Faculty, Journeys School – Gifted and Talented Faculty, Journeys School – High School International Baccalaureate Science Faculty, Journeys School – Mandarin Language Faculty (part time), and Wildlife Expeditions – Seasonal Biologist (Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks). Some of these jobs have been posted for a while, but they’re still up, so check them out.
