Have you ever had a nasty cut, scrape, or blister that didn’t quite need stitches but needed more than a band-aid? I’ve had plenty, and my go-to remedy is New-Skin. It’s super painful to put on, and it smells terrible, but it does the job. While New-Skin is a great at home solution, it’s not meant for surgical situations (at least as far as I know). There’s a whole class of surgical sealants, and Neomend is an Irvine, CA based company that is innovating in the space with their Progel technology platform. It’s “a resorbable hydrogel with a unique, accessible molecular structure that makes it ideal for development of novel medical devices like surgical sealants and adhesion barriers.” Hopefully you know what that means, because I don’t.
While I can’t tell you why Progel makes a better surgical sealant than Krazy Glue or New-Skin, I can tell you that the people who have invested $50 million in the company must have an idea of why it’s better. Neomend has actually been around since 1999, but all of the funding has come in the last two years. Neomend gets a little broad with their vision, but here it is anyway:
To create new technologies that enhance existing standards of care and inspire confidence in surgical technique, to provide uncomplicated solutions that improve each patient’s healthcare experience, and to reduce cost-of-care in hospitals and medical facilities worldwide.

Right now they’re looking for a Sales Support Account Manager – East/Northeast and Research & Development Interns in Engineering and Science. They mention that the positions can transition to full-time, so I figured they were worth including.
