Believe it or not you can build a business finding interesting stuff for other people. That’s essentially what I’ve done, and I’m not even that cool. Maybe that’s why I focused on jobs and internships instead of design, style, travel, technology, culture, food, etc. (though I’ve definitely covered companies with jobs in all of those areas). Cool Hunting is a site that covers all of those areas and more. They “highlight creativity and innovation” and provide inspiration to those who are in search of all that is cool. The site became successful very quickly, and a company called Captain Lucas Inc was built around it in New York, NY. Because Cool Hunting was so successful with advertisers, they also built out an ad network/firm called Largetail.

Don’t Job Hunt, Cool Hunt

I debated whether to treat Cool Hunting and Largetail as separate companies, but they focus on the intersection of content advertising (that should sound familiar from yesterday’s post), so I figured we should just look at Captain Lucas Inc. all at once. There’s not much that I can tell you about Cool Hunting–you really just need to start browsing their site and getting familiar with their content. If you love following, or better yet anticipating, trends, then you’ll want to check out the Jobs at Cool Hunting. Right now they’re looking for Writers, Editors, Designers, and Technologists. If you’re more into the advertising side, then take a look at the note about jobs at Longtail on their home page. It says they’re looking for Producers, Strategists, Ad Operators, and Sales Associates.
