Located in the northwestern United States, Washington is a leading state in agriculture, wine, and industry. It is home to eight of the 2012 Fortune 500 companies, all of them in Seattle or the Seattle metropolitan area.

Washington’s warm summers and cold winters make it a prime state for agriculture. The state leads the nation in the production of many fruits and vegetables, among them apples, red raspberries, hops, and many other fruits and vegetables. Washington also ranks right behind California in wine production.

A few of the many companies that call Washington home include Microsoft, Amazon, Starbucks, Nordstrom, Valve Corporation, REI, and Costco. Most of these companies are located in the Seattle area. Other major cities in Washington include Spokane, Tacoma, Vancouver, and Bellevue.
