Careers in Online Media

Looking for an entry level job or internship in online media? This is an overview of how to approach the search and a list of companies that might have relevant entry level and internship opportunities.

We’re consuming more online media every day, and it’s creating jobs. If it’s a job path for you, you’re in luck. Here are some possibilities:

Developer: Create and maintain the website that users visit
Blogger: Write regular blog posts on a given topic
Community Manager: Head up a community interested in a given topic
E-mail Marketing: Use regular e-mails to promote a product or business
Search Engine Marketing/Search Engine Optimization: Make a website rank high in search results or market your site through paid search results
Advertising: Design and place advertisements
User Interface/User Experience: Design a site so the user has a positive experience while visiting
Analytics: Optimize a website based on patterns in visitor info

While you don’t necessarily need a bachelor’s degree for some of these, a degree does help. More helpful for all of these is experience, so go make something interesting.
