North Carolina has a strong finance sector, particularly in its large cities. Bank of America and BB&T’s global headquarters are in North Carolina, and Charlotte’s financial center is the second most valuable after New York City’s.
Research and development, along with technology, are strong industries in North Carolina. The Research Triangle Park between Raleigh, Chapel Hill, and Durham is the largest and oldest continuously operating such park in the world. Other research parks have cropped up in Winston-Salem and Kannapolis.
North Carolina also has a strong agriculture sector, particularly in rural areas. The state is the leading producer of tobacco.
