Microfinance provides financial services to low-income individuals or those who lack access to banking services. It has also become a tool in pulling members of the low-income population out of poverty, both in the United States and abroad.

Since many of the opportunities in microfinance are in finance and accounting with some in software, marketing, and communication, build your finance and business background. Learn another language if you’d like to work abroad. And get an internship at a microfinance organization to beef up your experience–and get to know the business and borrowers.
