Located in the midwestern United States, Illinois comes with a variety of industries and companies to dive into, including 32 of the 2012 Fortune 500 companies. With one of the world’s busiest airports, access to the Atlantic Ocean via the Saint Lawrence Seaway, and a passenger and freight rail system, Illinois has made a place for itself as a transportation hub in the Midwest.

Illinois is also one of the nation’s leaders in manufacturing. Approximately 75% of the state’s manufacturers are located in northeastern Illinois. Agriculture is also a large industry for Illinois, particularly in the production of soybeans and corn. Most of the state’s meat processing centers are located in Chicago.

Energy resources also create opportunities in Illinois, both in traditional and alternative energy sources. Illinois has been a leader in nuclear power, with six plants and eleven reactors producing over a quarter of the state’s energy in 2010.

Chicago, the largest city in Illinois, is home to a major business district and a growing number of web companies (did you know One Day One Job is based in Chicago?). Some other cities to look at in Illinois include Chicago, Aurora, Springfield, Peoria, and Naperville.
