Looking for an entry level job or internship in food merchandising? This is an overview of how to approach the search and a list of companies that might have relevant entry level and internship opportunities.

Food merchandising involves purchasing food products and making them appealing to consumers through marketing, product display, and pricing. As a food merchandiser, you would work with a company that makes food products or with a store in order to make a certain product desirable. If you work with a food company, you would also be a contact between the company and a store.

A typical day for a food merchandiser may include:

Arranging a food display to make it more appealing
Finding the right price point for a product
Traveling to a store and advising on how to sell a product
Researching competing products’ food displays
Figuring out why a particular food isn’t selling

Depending on where you work, you may not need a bachelor’s degree to get started as a food merchandiser. However, the experience gained through the degree program may be useful to advance in your career.
