I have just begun my senior year at Bucknell University, a small liberal arts college in Lewisburg, Pa. I am a political science major, and the reason I chose such is because I had planned on attending law school after graduation. However, after much thought, I have decided law school is really not for me. From your description, it sounds like the Manchester area is the right place for me. I have spent the last few years in the heart of the Pennsylvania Wilds region, and I spend most of my time outdoors. I have been fly fishing since I was 14 (I’m now 21), and in my free time I can be found at places such as Penns Creek or Spring Creek. I have spent the last few months trying to figure out my future, and I have come to be certain that a career at Orvis is what I want to pursue. I would like to work somewhere in the realm of product development, but I am very flexible. The opportunity to hold a position at Orvis would literally be a dream come true. Orvis doesn’t usually get their internship program together until just a few months before the interns are expected to start (they appear to be still hiring 2008 Summer interns now); however, I recommend that you contact Orvis directly now at careers@orvis.com and see if there is anything that you can do to make yourself a better candidate for an internship next Summer. There’s no guarantee that they’ll hire you next year, but it’s definitely worth a shot to get things in motion now. Retail is a big part of their operation, and I’m sure that someone like you would be valuable to them as an intern.
