I'm not sure if I agree-at least not in one area of the company [Wisconsin] and in one area of employment (creative/advertising/marketing)-That place in middleton is like a revolving door when it comes to their graphics dept. everyone from art directors, to creative directors to graphic designers roll in and out of there like an assembly line- The average "stay" time is 6 months- being in that field-I have monitored Mattel's help wanted ads for over 15 years in this catagory-WOW! i have never seen such a turnover-they ALWAYS (without fail) have at least one and more often, several positions open for graphic designers/art directors etc, primarily for American Girl-I have known several people that have worked there (its an area of small communities so everyone know someone) and they hated it! Whoever is in charge of this dept. is a slave driver-takes credits for the creatives idea and doesnt give it where due- they get paid lousy wages and driven to non-stop overtime (without pay of course) there is little flexability at all...of course-it could boil down to a lousy boss or whatever-but you'd think Mattel would notice that their turnover was worse than a cheap bordello....If you see their ad (and most creatives in this area have) RUN!

Once again, having worked on Fortune's list myself, I can vouch for Mattel. Stand-up company, treat employees well, even in this economy, even during controversies can communicate with employees effectively. And who wouldn't want to make toys??
