I agree with JJones. Now you have to make sure your Facebook, Twitter or any other social media you use is squeaky clean.

Great article, I am constantly surprised by what/who is showing up in my social search results. Just goes to show that we are all more connected to each other than ever!

Not only is social search helping you find a job but I will prevent you from getting a job too. Be sure that when possible future employers are searching for you... that vulgar/offensive tweet isn't their first impression!

This is a good idea - I've had my buzz network coming up in my search results, but I am going to start piping in the rest of my stuff.

I'd love to see if Google comes up with a relevant topic "feed", where it combs through all your SM sources and feeds in comments / topics based on how relevant they are to your interests.

For example, if someone was talking about their diet and one of your interests is fitness or dieting or nutrition, it would be more relevant than if someone was talking about taking out the trash.

Cool to think about.

Google Social Search Just Changed Job Search...

You've probably heard that between 40% and 80% of people find their jobs through networking. Whoever quoted the statistic to you likely didn't cite a source, but it made sense so you accepted it at face value. The research......

100% agree that it makes zero sense that you can't search your twitter stream, or easily sort for links for that matter (you can now do this in Facebook's live feed). I'm also waiting for a real-time search engine to move away from simply keywords and move toward objects. That is, when I search for jobs, show me actual jobs, not simply tweets with a matching keyword somewhere in there. I suppose that's what folks like Twitterjobsearch.com attempt to do but I think there's a better way.

Nice, Willy. Good reminder to actually *use* these tools (not just ego-surf) and how to use google to get the most out of them... Btw, look up "the power of weak ties." you're right about the value of broad-yet-meaningful networks...

This is an excellent explanation of how Google's new social search can benefit us all, whether we're job seekers, employers, or just looking for the best sushi in the neighborhood.
